A Father-Daughter Story
For Elizabeth King, storytelling began long before Penmar Books. It began alongside her father, artist Eddie Martinez.
Growing up, Elizabeth spent much of her childhood immersed in her father’s creative world—art studios, television soundstages, movie lots, and Disney. She watched him create and listened as the remarkable artists and storytellers around him shared their experiences. Those early years shaped not only her own creative path, but also a lifelong appreciation for the stories behind the art.
Eddie Martinez is an artist, illustrator, and production designer whose career has spanned more than five decades across fine art, motion pictures, television, themed entertainment, and live stage productions. Throughout his career, art and storytelling have remained inseparable—each work carrying with it the people, places, memories, and experiences that inspired it.
Elizabeth followed her own creative path, building a career of more than 40 years in graphic design, marketing, and book design. Yet the lessons she learned growing up beside her father never left her. Among them was advice shared with her by legendary Disney Imagineer Herb Ryman: “Remember, your talent doesn’t belong to you; you need to give it away.”
Today, those two creative journeys have come together.
Elizabeth founded Penmar Books from a passion for helping people preserve and share the stories that matter—and fittingly, the first story she is helping tell is her father’s.
Together, father and daughter are bringing Eddie’s remarkable artwork and the stories behind it to the page, beginning with The Art of the Square Ring. What started decades ago with a young girl watching her father create has become something neither could have imagined at the time: a new chapter they are now creating together.

Every story has a beginning.
For Penmar Books, that beginning is deeply personal.
My passion for creating books comes from a love of helping people tell their stories and preserve their history—capturing the people, places, memories, and creative lives that might otherwise be lost with time.
So when it came time to name this new chapter, there was no better name than Penmar.
“Pen” comes from my mother's maiden name, Peña, and “Mar” comes from my father's family name, Martinez.
Together, Penmar represents something much bigger than a name. It represents my parents, my family heritage, and the love and stories they passed down to me.
That is the heart of Penmar Books.
We believe stories are worth preserving. Whether they are the story of an artist, a family, a remarkable life, a piece of history, or a creative journey, every story has something worth remembering.
Through beautifully designed books, Penmar Books is dedicated to helping authors, artists, families, and storytellers bring those stories to life—and preserve them for generations to come.
This is my story behind the name.
